On the open market, no. It’s a preexisting condition unfortunately.
If you or your spouse can get it through your employer and you opted out before, you can sign up for it during open enrollment (which starts next month for most companies) and your coverage will kick in on 1/01/09.
Otherwise, if your income is low enough, you might quality for your state’s Medicaid. Google “Medicaid + [your state]”http://www.health.state.ny.us/health_car…
Edit: Found income requirements, and it looks like you’re over. http://www.health.state.ny.us/health_car…
Hospitals do allow you to set up payment plans, and there are generally heafy discounst when you’re paying out of pocket.

If you have health insurance with the company you work for, you should add your wife and let the insurance know she is pregnant. I’ve seen ads on TV talking about pregnancy insurance only for pregnant women, but I am not sure of the name. Also you can ask the OB dr. if there are any insurances available as you will want to make sure whatever insurance you choose, your wife’s OB will accept it. You might try going to a Department of Economic Security office and see if your wife would qualify for state insurance.

Yes, pregnancy is not considered a preexisting condition with most insurances. (I did billing for 5 yrs at a dr office) I was 6 months pregnant and lost my insurance and had to switch to my husbands. They covered everything. You can also add her to your policy if you have one. Pregnancy is considered a life changing event. A young lady asked on here the other day if pregnancy was considered preexisting to her new insurance. I told her to check with her insurance to be sure but in most cases no. She added later that she checked with her insurance per my advice and found out that she would be covered. It really just depends on the company. If she can’t find any insurance she can always apply for medicaid, all they can do is say yes or no. Best of luck!!

I got insurance through Regence Blue Shield at 20 weeks pregnant, they did not consider pregnancy to be a preexisting condition. Medicaid does not automatically cover every pregnant women- I was denied for making $68 too much with that pregnancy. Call around to the different insurance carriers in your state to get the info you need, or make an appt with an insurance broker who can lay out all of your options.

I did. I got a PPO from IBX at around 25 weeks pregnant – it was through the Chamber of Commerce however at group rates because my husband and I own our own business. It was not considered a pre-existing condition. You need to call who you plan to have insurance with and ask. It does vary from company to company.

I think it depends on where you live. For me, I called about it and they rushed it for me. And I had it in like 3 days. Call around to different places and see what they say..

Yes there is. You should check with your social services department for your county because the coverages varies. I used it like about 15 years ago…they may still have it…it’s called Family Planning.
