I just bought this book yesterday and found it to be a very easy read and full of good nutrition information. The book is well put together with cover and back flaps which makes it nice to mark pages. The photography and color coded pages are a joy to read unlike other calorie books with their muddy color pages and tiny print.

I did make the mastake in not really looking at the book more throughly before buying it. This is a British written book and, therefore, doesn’t coincide a great deal with American dietary products. Most of the book seems to reference only fresh items or individual ingredients rather than combined products such as bread or homemade items. This certainly would make the quality counting points tedious to use. The author has set up this system to get the reader to eat healtier and higher quality foods. The other problem is the lack of normal product information. i.e. in trying to look up a bran muffin, for instance, there is no bran muffin listed. The same goes for many common American products. This might be because it is written by a naturopath who is already into quality eating rather than one trying to get to the same place.

So, if you are looking for a calorie book to simply count calories, look elsewhere. If you want some excellent nutrition inforamtion on how certain nutrients affect the human body. This is definitely a good reference book.

If the author were to go the extra effort and truly adapt the book to the American diet, she would have a winner. Also, the quality calorie counter would be much easier to use.
