I am looking into my future, and my career goal is to become a surgeon, but recently I have heard that universal health care will be a hard hit for doctors and others in the medical field because they would earn dramatically less money (as in income). Is this true?

Doctors Receptionist?

There’s nothing worse than a snotty doctor’s receptionist who insists you tell her what is wrong in a room full of other patients. I know you all have experienced this, and here’s the way one old guy handled it.
An 86-year-old man walked into a crowded doctor’s office. As he approached the desk, the receptionist said, “Yes sir, what are you seeing the doctor for today?”
There’s something wrong with my d*ck,” he replied.
The receptionist became irritated and said, “You shouldn’t come into a crowded office and say things like that.”
“Why not? You asked me what was wrong and I told you,” he said.
The receptionist replied, “You’ve obviously caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and then discussed the problem further with the doctor in private.”
The man walked out, waited several minutes and then reentered.
The receptionist smiled smugly and asked, “Yes?”
There’s something wrong with my ear,” he stated.
The receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice. “And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?”
“I can’t piss out of it,” the man replied.
The doctor’s office erupted in laughter.

I live in the US.
Is lap band ever covered by insurance? I know Gastric Bypass surgery is, but that’s too permanent for my liking. Does anyone have any feedback on the lap band procedure?

Doctors Office?

This is so true! They always ask at the doctor’s office why you are there, and you have to answer in front of others what’s wrong and sometimes it is embarrassing. There’s nothing worse than a Doctor’s Receptionist who insists you tell her what is wrong with you in a room full of other patients. I know most of us have experienced this, and I love the way this old guy handled it.
An 86 year old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk…. The Receptionist said, “Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?”
“There’s something wrong with my dick”, he replied.
The receptionist became irritated and said, “You shouldn’t come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that.”
“Why not? You asked me what was wrong and I told you,” he said.
The Receptionist replied; “Now you’ve caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.”
The man replied, “You shouldn’t ask people questions in a room full strangers, if the answer could embarrass anyone. The man walked out, waited several minutes and then re-entered.
The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, “Yes??”
“There’s something wrong with my ear”, he stated.
The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice. “And what is wrong with your ear, Sir??”
“I can’t piss out of it,” he replied.
The waiting room erupted in laughter.

Say we did end up having a single pay health care system where rates for doctors and medical services are set, where would the money come from?
Does anyone have a problem with taxing everyone a percentage of their income? It makes since to me. . . what’s the problem?
*Please explain what foreign terms mean…
:)
Thanks!

Universal Healthcare is a huge topic today. Here is an article that I found about this topic. Recently one of Canada’s prime ministers came here to the USA for treatment for something. I can’t find the news story and I am still looking for it, but its interesting that the Utopian Universal Healthcare system is now going to subcontract private industries to handle things that they cannot do efficiently. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/26/intern…

I’ve included a link to a youtube video with Tito Ortiz where it is said that no fighter in the UFC is provided with any kind of insurance through the organization. Dana White claims it is too difficult to insure his fighters. It happens at the 3 minute mark.
maybe they just have to pay out of pocket.
